WRITER SEMINARS: How has studying published authors changed/improved your writing?

Are you glad you did your writer? Who different would you consider? Why?

I wasn’t into Rick Riordan in the first place as a child or even now. But when we chose to do Rick Riordan for my writer’s seminar, I immediately fell in love with the twisted fantasies and adventurous tales that took me until the end of the book. He is just a detailed author in general and when you compare his adult books to his children books, there is always a switch of personality which I am inspired to do if I write any of my stories or poems. If I would choose an author it would definitely be Roald Dahl even as he is a children’s author. As a kid, I loved how he perfectly created fairy tales with some sort of dark element even in a kid’s novel. The novel cover honestly gave me chills as a kid and I wondered why he would put this type of cover on a children’s book. But as I grew older, I took note that even as it seems creepy it’s still addictively alluring.

What genres have interested you the most?

Definitely fantasy and fiction. Right off the bat.

What did you learn from the writers? Inspirations?

It teached me how to change my voice and perspectives when it came on my story writing. Especially during class, when students came up to present their blogs, I just stood there in awe. It really inspired me to come to terms with writing what I want, when I want, and how I want regardless of people’s negative opinions.

Do you intend to read more of a writer? Which?

I honestly find myself in between and I guess I will have to figure it out until I can really understand the depth of my writing.

BLOGGER: Discuss 3-4 student writers in the class who you have commented on and/or are a fan of their writing. Please link to their blog post/page and explain what you like about their writing/work.

Abhay:

The first minute I even read the first lines, I felt like I was living in another dimension. If your a person who is very deep in thought about writing, lead it to Abhay. I especially was in awe when it came to reading his poems. The beauty of it was purely enlightened and just took my breathe away. It’s so simplistic yet graceful. His theme, his style, and just everything else was truly worth the time to read.

Liza:

Usually learning languages is so hard to understand. But what this blog has teached me is that that’s the beauty of it. Russian is an amazing language itself but the fact that it can be correlated into poetry just brings a spark into Liza’s writing. It somehow brings a flame that is fiery yet majestically pleasing that dances with the words. I love Liza’s blog as the aesthetics and Russian vibe given off really fit in with her stories and poems. Hopefully, other writers and myself can take the idea of adding a cultural element into our story writing as well.

Naimah:

At first glance, you would think looking at Naimah’s blog is very typical and simplistic. But as soon as you get yourself into the story itself, it’s mesmerizing and tempting to read through and through. I personally have read more than one of her pieces and her stories are just amazing. Her stories bring reality at its fullest just as reading poems would. I would definitely take her theme as an inspiration if I would have wanted to keep my blog unique but natural.
